Encephalitis is an acute inflammation of the brain.
Encephalitis with meningitis is known as meningoencephalitis.
CT scan often is not helpful, as cerebral abscess is uncommon. Cerebral abscess is more common in patients with meningitis than encephalitis. Magnetic resonance imaging offers better resolution.
